Space Marine 2
I finally went back in and finished out space marine 2. This was perfectly fine. It almost feels like a muso with guns or something. They do a pretty good job conveying the feeling of “being a space marine”. I really liked the specific parry callouts. All attacks are parryable but they do a good job highlighting specific melee attacks that are meant to be parried and have specific performances associated with them.
Having the “swarm” generally be short of 4 legged dudes and the ranged guys me taller more upright dudes feels like a smart basic design choice. It was a little while ago but I actually forgot the latter portion of the game is fighting chaos so that says all I need to say about that. I felt enemy design in general was sort of uninteresting. They have some sort of “basic” (from the design perspective) swarm tech that is used to good effect for the tyranids. This was fun.
Animal Well
This is a super neat explorative game. I don’t really know that there’s a lot of worth I can get typing out how enjoyable figuring out this game was. There’s an insane amount of depth in the collectathon beyond the manticore but I didn’t quite have the juice in me to do the collectathon. I think I would require a tad more narrative then what was here to go in that deep. I love the almost “toy” concept behind items in this game and how there’s often multiple solutions to the games puzzles.
Game also looks and sounds amazing (I swear that’s the bird from Stalker). He really gets a LOT out of shaders and visual effects on top of the pixel art.
